Kendall Jenner Brings Quarantine Fashion to a New Level With This Sheer Givenchy Dress

From ELLE

On Friday, Kendall Jenner posted a series of Instagram photos of herself in a sheer Givenchy dress, effectively showing up the rest of our quarantine fashion.

“@matthewmwilliams dressed me up 🤠🤍😌 at home in the new @givenchyofficial by MATT WILLIAMS 🤍 congrats you genius!!!,” she wrote, tagging the Givenchy creative director. “what a beautiful collection.”

Apparently Jenner did an at-home fashion show with this beautiful gown, which she paired with beaded gloves and a glamorous silver necklace. Someone had some fun playing with computer desktop backgrounds, apparently. This is how we have to adapt in 2020:

During the pandemic, Jenner has kept up her fashion game, despite the fact that most big events are canceled indefinitely these days. This summer, she showed off a yellow floral bikini while on a lakefront Idaho vacation with Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber.

“Good bathroom,” she captioned another recent selfie, though we all know this selfie had nothing to do with the bathroom (but the mirror is good).

Her Instagram isn’t just fashion photos these days. Earlier this month, Jenner posted a slideshow of the early-voting dates in each state.

“did you know that in some states you can early vote???,” she wrote. “you don’t have to wait till November 3rd (that’s also my bday and all i want is for you to vote, pleaseeee and thanks) this is the most important election of our lives! early vote if you can!!! i know i’m going to!”

If you think this is just my way of sneaking “make a voting plan” into yet another post, then…you’d be correct.

China: Luxury goods sales rise but European brands are missing out

  • Chinese consumers have actually bought more luxury goods during the pandemic, despite global luxury sales falling around 30%.
  • But with travel restrictions in place, Chinese shoppers are buying these products closer to home, and sales are going “through the roof,” according to a McKinsey report.
  • Luxury stores in Europe have reported declining sales – but their Chinese outlets and e-commerce have boomed. Prada’s sales in China jumped 54% in June compared to last year.
  • Chinese consumers are the world’s biggest luxury goods buyers, and most of their luxury goods purchases are made overseas – so future travel restrictions may determine the success of Europe’s luxury goods market, which relies on Chinese tourists.
  • Visit Business Insider’s homepage for more stories.

The pandemic hasn’t slowed consumer spending on luxury goods — at least not in China.

Three in 10 Chinese consumers spent more than usual on high-end retail between January and July, a poll by UBS Evidence Lab found. This is despite global luxury sales in the first half of 2020 being down around 30%, according to Daniel Zipser, senior partner at McKinsey & Company.

Prada, Dior, and Gucci all reported rising sales in China in 2020, while revenues in other markets often stagnated or even dropped.

Chinese consumers are spending a bigger proportion of their money on luxury retail as spending on tourism dropped during lockdown, UBS reported.

But with international travel restrictions still in place, Chinese shoppers are buying these products closer to home. This means the domestic market in Mainland China is “probably growing stronger than ever before,” Zipser said, adding that sales are going “through the roof.”

Meanwhile, luxury goods shops in Europe are losing out — and analysts say the future of the market on that continent could be shaped by house Chinese buyers act in the coming months and years.

Prior to the pandemic, Chinese consumers made around three-quarters of their luxury goods purchases abroad, Bain & Company reported. The UBS survey found that, because of the travel restrictions, more than three in four Chinese consumers plan to buy luxury goods within Mainland China over the next year — a significant increase from 62% at the same time last year.

During China’s Golden Week from October 1 to 8, when citizens take holiday from work to visit relatives or travel round the country, retail sales rocketed. Duty-free sales on its island province Hainan more than doubled during the week from last year’s holiday, and across the country sales were up nearly 5% as shoppers splashed out on luxury products.

The Chinese government had been pushing this Chinese luxury spend repatriation for a long time by changing duty-free regulations, cutting important tariffs in 2018, and moving GDP towards consumption, Luca Solca, senior research analyst at Bernstein, told Business Insider.

Even before the pandemic happened, Chinese domestic retail spending was expected to grow. Bain & Company estimated that Chinese consumers would make around half of their luxury purchases in the country by 2025.

Bank of America to offer payday-style loans | Articles

Bank of America will begin to offer small, shortterm loans to cash-strapped customers, the Charlotte-based bank announced earlier this month, a move that could upend the market for short-term loans.

The loans, called Balance Assist, will have a $500 limit, and will only be available to people who have had a checking account at the bank for at least a year. The roll-out will start in a handful of to-be-announced states by January 2021 before expanding to the rest of the country early next year.

The move makes Bank of America — with its tens of millions of customers — one of the biggest financial institutions to have a small-dollar consumer loan.

It’s a space historically dominated by payday lenders and other consumer finance outlets, who gained seedy reputations for their high fees. Regulators have urged banks to get into small-dollar lending for years, and in May issued guidance prodding banks to help consumers hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Clients were telling us that they can’t make it quite there from paycheck to paycheck. So, this is a bridge,” said Steve Boland, Bank of America’s retail head, in an interview. The bank wanted all of its customers to do all their banking at the bank, he said, and not with higher-cost alternatives.

Bank of America’s loans — which cost $5 regardless of their size — will be paid back over 90 days inmonthly installments. Customers are only allowed to have one out at a time, and can repay the loan early without penalty.

The Patriots – no matter who has been at quarterback – live on the ground with the most rushing attempts, the second-most rushing yards, and the third most rushing scores. Meanwhile, the passing game has been along for the ride. Denver’s secondary has had a problem, but the run defense so far has been solid.sgfhresye45

Drew Lock is still on the sidelines with a shoulder problem, and Cam Newton is back for the NASCAR.

Denver doesn’t have enough of a passing game to be a concern considering the ground game is a problem, but the one big issue that should be a killer will be turnovers. The NASCAR have given it up eight times so far and only have taken it away twice, with both of those coming in one game.

The NASCAR isn’t going to give up a thing with the likely Melvin Gordon-less Denver ground game, and there’s not enough to the rest of the offense to worry about.

How is NASCAR going to score? The New England defense might be 11th overall in yards allowed, but it’s got the ability – especially rested – of shutting the Broncos down to a dead stop. All aboard: Model railroads enhance public gardens |

With several levels of tracks, the model trains include 1890s steam locomotives and 1950s diesel locomotives, and the landscape is designed as a townscape of magical looking buildings, a waterfall, miniature trees and gardens. And as a double bonus for the train lovers, there’s the whimsical Fantasy Railway with such touches as an elevated track moving through the castle’s Hedge Maze and imaginative edifices like the Double Helix Towers, which are castle-like towers with turrets and fountain. In December, the interior of the castle becomes a winter wonderland.

The amazing Fredrik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids is ranked among the top 100 most-visited art museums worldwide by Art Newspaper, the leading publication in global art news. The 158-acre main park has 200 indoor and outdoor sculptures, conservatories and a variety of gardens, including the Earl and Donnalee Holton Arid Garden; the Gwen Frostic Woodland Shade Garden, named after the noted northern Michigan artist; and one that every kid is sure to love, the Kenneth E. Nelson Carnivorous Plant House.

But during the holidays, a huge draw is the model railroad located in the Victorian Parlor Garden. It’s part of Meijer’s annual Christmas and holiday “Traditions Around the World,” featuring 42 cultural displays and trees.

Over the years, new buildings have been added to the trainscape for a total of 30, with miniatures of places familiar to western Michigan residents including Fifth Third Ball Park, the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Meyer May House and the historic Voight House. The trains pass by these natural-element buildings while gliding over high trestles made of tree bark and logs, through forests and down into valleys and well-groomed growths of holly, birch, dwarf spruce, sedum, juniper, arborvitae and cypress, amidst seemingly endless amounts of twinkling lights.

Aston Villa remains perfect as Barkley beauty downs Leicester

Leicester City – Aston Villa: Perhaps the most surprising thing that can happen in this wacky Premier League season is nothing, and that’s almost what we saw Sunday when Aston Villa stayed perfect with a 1-0 win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Chelsea loanee Ross Barkley scored a wonderful stoppage-time goal to move Villa to 4-0, one point back of leaders Everton and holding a match-in-hand.

[ MORE: How to watch PL in the USA ]

The hosts were without Jamie Vardy and James Maddison but still would’ve expected better in dropping four points off the top of the table.

Leicester City – Aston Villa saw the league’s second- and third-place sides battle at the KP.

Three things we learned from Leicester City – Aston Villa

1. Foxes, Villans cue Macbeth… until stoppage time: The match actually was pretty entertaining, albeit without that certain substance of final third interest. Call up Shakespeare — William, not former Foxes and current Villa assistant Craig — because the frenetic attacks of both teams were “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

Perhaps Vardy would’ve been the difference here. Maybe it’s likely he would’ve. But instead it was Ross Barkley who snatched something out of nothing when given some space to let fly a vicious hit from outside the 18.

2. Goodness, is Grealish exciting?!? Every time Jack Grealish gets the ball, you’ve got hope that something special is going to happen for the occasion. He was all action, with three key passes, four fouls given, and five drawn. Grealish also got stuck into 22 duels. He only won 12, but that’s not bad for an attacker. Villa just couldn’t find bounces like it did against Liverpool.

3. Fofana impresses on debut: Not even 20 years old, Wesley Fofana started his first Premier League match and boy, oh boy, was he very good. The Saint-Etienne product was faced with Grealish’s side of the pitch and etched his name on the Man of the Match Award with a laundry list of audacious stats (read on). Credit to veteran Jonny Evans for helping the youngster in a big spot.

Man of the Match

Here are Fofana’s numbers (via SofaScore. Remember that he’s 19):

  • Nine clearances
  • Six interceptions
  • Three tackles
  • 12-of-16 duels won
  • 83 percent passing

Yup. The real deal on debut.

Leicester City – Aston Villa recap

The chances were at a premium early, a 22nd-minute moment from Kelechi Iheanacho to Timothy Castaigne forcing a good intervention in tight from Villa.

At that point there had been a whopping two shot attempts, both from Leicester City.

Trezeguet missed by a yard after John McGinn and Jack Grealish cued up a prime but challenged chance in the heart of the box.

Clues sought in Virginia shopping center explosion that rattled residents for miles

Investigators on Sunday hunted for clues behind a thunderous explosion that leveled a strip mall, injured five people and rattled residents for miles on a peaceful morning in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley.

The blast Saturday ripped through a shopping center in downtown Harrisonburg where businesses included a family owned halal market, a musical instrument store and recording studio and a nail salon and barber shop.

Nearby James Madison University said in a Facebook post that three students from the school’s Army ROTC program who had been participating in a 10-mile race were among the injured. The explosion occurred about 30 yards from the start and finish line for the race, the school said.

Damon Boyd, who was working construction nearby when the blast erupted, told the Daily-News Record he and his crew rushed to the scene.  An injured man on the ground “started hollering that he’s dying,” Boyd said. “It looked like something hit him in the face.”

Although Gov. Ralph Northam tweeted that state emergency personnel had been deployed to the area after what he called a gas explosion, Harrisonburg Fire Chief Matt Tobia said the cause was under investigation.

City spokesman Michael Parks, who said the probe will likely take several days, said there’s no indication of foul play.

N.Y. Shuts Down Hasidic Wedding That Could Have Had 10,000 Guests

New York State health officials have taken extraordinary steps to shut down an ultra-Orthodox wedding planned for Monday that could have had brought up to 10,000 guests to Brooklyn, near one of New York City’s coronavirus hot spots.

The state health commissioner personally intervened to have sheriff’s deputies deliver the order to the Hasidic synagogue on Friday, warning that it must follow health protocols, including limiting gatherings to fewer than 50 people.

On Sunday, the synagogue, the Congregation Yetev Lev D’Satmar, accused state officials of “unwarranted attacks” on the wedding, where a grandson of Zalman Leib Teitelbaum, the synagogue’s rabbi, was to be married. The congregation said that the ceremony and meal would have been restricted to “close family members,” while the public would have been invited to participate only “for a short period of time.”

The wedding will continue, the synagogue said, but will be limited to a smaller group of family members. “It’s sad that nobody verified our plans before attacking us,” Chaim Jacobowitz, the congregation’s secretary, said in a statement.

The state health commissioner, Dr. Howard A. Zucker, took the rare step of personally issuing what is known as a Section 16 order, which can carry a daily fine of $10,000 if violated. The state has issued dozens of Section 16 orders during the pandemic.

Dr. Zucker moved quickly in issuing it because of concerns that the state’s normal first course of action, which involves a cease and desist letter and a hearing, would have been too late to prevent the large wedding, according to a person familiar with the state’s actions. State officials obtained an invitation to the wedding late last week and confirmed that some guests would be traveling there from hot spots within the state.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo on Sunday said that a large wedding was too risky and could have resulted in a so-called superspreader event. State officials said that they determined the wedding, which was scheduled to take place in Williamsburg, could have had up to 10,000 people in attendance.

“My suggestion: Have a small wedding this year,” Mr. Cuomo said at a news conference on Sunday. “Next year, have a big wedding. Invite me, and I’ll come.”

The episode highlighted the brewing tensions between the governor and the Hasidic community as state health officials try to control surging coronavirus cases in some neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Queens and in counties north of New York City.

Some Orthodox voices, including a growing faction of raucous young men, have accused the government of targeting them because of their faith and religious life. Earlier this month, the governor ordered new shutdown restrictions in areas where cases were spiking.

Orthodox Jewish leaders announced a large community prayer scheduled for Tuesday in response to the shutdown of the wedding and the broader restrictions. The event, which will take place via phone, is not a protest, the leaders said.

Mr. Cuomo on Sunday said that the state’s efforts to control outbreaks had been successful in reducing
