Princess Beatrice’s iconic wedding dress from her wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in July was made extra special for the fact that it was originally her grandmother, the Queen’s.

Originally designed by Norman Hartnell – the same designer who made the Queen and Princess Margaret’s wedding dresses – royal dressmaker Angela Kelly and designer Stewart Parvin made a few tweaks to the garment here and there to make it unique to Beatrice for her own big day.

The gown is currently on display at Windsor Castle, and Beatrice has already been to see it.

Sharing news of the exhibit on Twitter, Beatrice wrote, “It was an honour to wear my grandmother’s beautiful dress on my wedding day, I hope many of you are able to visit the exhibition which is still open at Windsor Castle.”

She also tweeted her thanks to well-wishers, adding: “Thank you to everyone who has sent in and tweeted their best wishes for our special day in July. Edo and I are so excited to embark on this new chapter together.”

Beatrice and Edo had originally planned to marry on 29 May, in a ceremony at St. James’s Palace followed by a reception in the gardens of Buckingham Palace. But in March it became clear that coronavirus was going to stand in their way, and an official statement from Buckingham Palace revealed the wedding plans were ‘under review’. So instead, the Princess and her Italian property developer fiancé organised a small-scale ‘lockdown wedding’.

They both seem pretty happy with the outcome!
