WhatsApp Announces Shopping and Payment Tools for Businesses

Facebook and WhatsApp announced that it is increasing its investment into shopping with WhatsApp. Facebook has listened to feedback and will begin offering more and expanded tools to help businesses sell more online with WhatsApp.

Facebook wants to make it easier for businesses to chat and close sales with WhatsApp, including a way to browse products, select products and pay for the products, all while communicating with a business.

Facebook previously announced a dedicated shopping tab on Facebook and Instagram, including in-app purchases. This functionality will be expanded on WhatsApp.

Evolution of Online Shopping During Pandemic

Consumers are increasingly shopping with apps. Restaurants that have pivoted to curbside pick up and ordering by apps are becoming a normal thing. Ordering with an app is more normal and accepted now than ever before.

Actress Natalie Portman appeared on Tuesday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and revealed the women’s soccer team she is helping bring to Los Angeles in 2022 will be named Angel City FC.

“A group of us became really passionate about women’s soccer because we have the best players in the world in the United States in the most popular sport in the world,” she said. “So we got together and we are bringing Angel City FC, the women’s soccer team for Los Angeles, to L.A. in 2022.” 

It’s hard to argue with her assessment of American players being the best in the world when it comes to women’s soccer. The U.S. women’s national team is four-time World Cup champions and took home the last two in 2015 and 2019.

Many of the team’s players have become household names as a result of the success, including Megan Rapinoe, Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan, Julie Ertz and more.

In July, the National Women’s Soccer League announced there will be a professional women’s soccer team in Los Angeles in 2022 thanks to a majority woman-founded ownership group led by Portman.

The ownership’s group also included Serena Williams, Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy and Abby Wambach, as well as actors Uzo Aduba, Jessica Chastain, America Ferrera, Jennifer Garner and Eva Longoria.

Angel City FC will be the 11th team in the NWSL, which currently has nine clubs. Racing Louisville FC will join the league in 2021 as the 10th team.

Vogue Australia have announced Vogue Fashion’s Night In 2020 in partnership with American Express.

Vogue Australia editor-in-chief Edwina McCann today announced the launch of Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night In 2020, running the retail event online for the first time in its 11 year history from 22 October to 1 November 2020.

Vogue Australia and presenting partner American Express have reimagined the annual Fashion’s Night Out event this year to host Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night In, an 11 day national festival of fashion and beauty featuring a series of virtual events all designed to reinvigorate the local retail and fashion industry.

Ms McCann said: “It’s incredible how this Vogue Australia event continues to develop. It was founded by Anna Wintour in 2009, with the intention of helping retailers survive the GFC. In 2020 amidst the backdrop of a global pandemic, Fashion’s Night Out will become Vogue American Express Fashion’s Night In, and we are pulling the event back to its core purpose – to ignite retail spend and create sizable economic impact for the retail and fashion sectors.

10/20/20, SEATTLE, WA – Pacific Northwest Ballet is honored to announce the receipt of a million-dollar gift from the Friday Foundation. With this gift – designated to the Pacific Northwest Ballet Foundation – PNB has created a new endowment, the Jane Lang Davis New Works Fund. Annual income from the invested fund will be used in perpetuity to provide support for one new ballet each season, and/or support the full breadth of PNB’s New Works initiative, including workshops for emerging artists.

PNB established the Pacific Northwest Ballet Foundation in 1998 to receive endowment gifts and bequests. PNB Foundation is a separate entity and is governed by its own board. “The Pacific Northwest Foundation is honored to receive this transformational gift from the Friday Foundation establishing the Jane Lang Davis New Works Fund,” said Peter A.
