From a long shot clothing startup to a prominent boxing brand

Founder and CEO Ben Amanna wanted to start a boxing brand that embodied the lifestyle of a boxer. He did that with BOXRAW, which is embraced by the sport.

Everlast, Rival, and Grant are some of the established names in the boxing apparel and equipment business. However, there’s a relatively new player in the market, and that’s BOXRAW. However, it’s their philosophy that sets them apart from all others.

According to a press release, BOXRAW CEO and founder Ben Amanna describes the company’s vision as more than “the sport or practice of fighting with fists.’ It was a lifestyle, ‘the way in which a person lives.’”

The term “raw” in the brand’s name reflects Amanna’s concept. It parallels his early conception of BOXRAW and its simple beginnings. The idea first came to him while he was on a boxing training run.

“I was running down the street in a sh**ty Adidas tracksuit,” Amanna told FanSided. “I remember thinking that I wanted people to know that I was training for a fight. You know, I was proud to be a boxer. Anyone that seen me running on the side of the road would just assume that I’m, you know, running for whatever reason. That was a moment I realized and sort of start to delve in further thought that there wasn’t a brand that represents the boxers.”

That was Amanna’s “aha” moment. It was a great idea, but building an apparel brand with a worldwide reach is another thing. Amanna’s dream didn’t materialize overnight. It actually took over a year of research and social media hype before BOXRAW was ready to launch.

“We never set out just to sort of sell product,” said Amanna. “It was more about the ‘why,’ you know, and it took maybe about a year and a half on social media before we launched the actual brand.”

Amanna built up a following on social media, which added buzz to BOXRAW’s launch. At the time, BOXRAW had about 20,000 followers on Instagram. Today, it has nearly 300,000. His social media presence and unique ability to market enabled him to make a lot of progress in a relatively short amount of time.

Amanna studied the business, crunched the numbers, and developed relationships in terms of production and warehousing. The history of BOXRAW is covered in a YouTube video on Shopify’s channel.

Along with business relationships, Amanna forged relationships with some of the biggest names in boxing. BOXRAW clothing has been rocked by Oleksandr Usyk, Gervonta Davis, Michael Conlan, Errol Spence Jr., Jermall Charlo, and Vasiliy Lomachenko.

In Shopify’s video highlighting BOXRAW’s success, Amanna is seen attending Lomachenko’s bout against Jose Pedraza in New York back in 2018. BOXRAW designed much of Lomachenko’s ring walk and team apparel.

BOXRAW is building a large following and is championed by some of the biggest names in boxing, including Vasiliy Lomachenko and Gervonta Davis

— The Orange County Democratic Party has apologized to a teen voter who was told by a volunteer that he couldn’t wear a T-shirt supporting President Donald Trump into an early voting site this week.

“I’ve had the shirt four or five years now,” David Mogle, of Hillsborough, said Thursday of his “Trump, Make America Great Again” shirt.

He was too young to vote when he first got the shirt, but he turned 18 last December. His mother, Melissa Mogle, said he couldn’t wait to vote in this year’s elections.

“Oh, my gosh, he’s been excited to vote probably for the past four years,” she said.

Vote; election

So, David Mogle wore the shirt Tuesday to the early voting site at the Efland Ruritan Club, where he was approached by a volunteer for the Democratic Party.

“He says, ‘Excuse me, sir. You can’t wear that within 50 feet of the polls. Do you have a jacket you can pull over it?'” the teen said.

When David Mogle said he didn’t, the man told him he could turn the shirt inside out.

“I didn’t want to get into it with the guy. I just thought the best thing to do was just leave,” he said.

“I felt badly for him,” Melissa Mogle said. “It’s his first election to vote in, and I wanted him to have a good experience.”

Voting Machines in Georgia

State law sets a 50-foot buffer from the doors to a polling site that’s off limits to campaigning. The law bans ads and other political literature there but says nothing about voters’ clothing.

Orange County elections director Rachel Raper said people can wear T-shirts, hats, pins or any other campaign apparel when they vote as long as they’re not harassing other voters ot telling them whom to vote for.

Marilyn Carter, chairwoman of the Orange County Democratic Party, emailed an apology to the Mogles on behalf of the Democratic Party.

“We want all voters, especially young people, to feel welcome at the polls,” Carter said in a statement to WRAL News. “We believe this incident occurred because a well-intentioned volunteer knew that people appointed by the political parties to observe inside the polling place cannot wear campaign insignia and assumed that this prohibition also applied to voters.”

Plan Your Vote

She said she has notified North Carolina Democratic Party officials about the incident to make sure volunteers are trained on what voters are allowed to wear at the polling place.

David Mogle said he returned to the early voting site on Wednesday, wearing the shirt and a Trump hat, and voted.

“Nobody said anything to me,” he said.

New model could help identify people at risk for long COVID

Researchers in the UK, United States, and Sweden have presented new findings that could help identify individuals at risk of “long COVID” – a protracted course of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) symptoms last for more than 28 days.

The findings come from an analysis of data available for more than 4,000 people with COVID-19 who reported their symptoms prospectively using the COVID Symptom Study app.

Claire Steves (King’s College London) and the team found that long COVID was characterized by fatigue, headache, difficulty breathing (dyspnea), and a loss of sense of smell (anosmia).

They also found that long COVID was more likely to develop with increasing age, body mass index (BMI), and female gender.

Furthermore, a predictive model the researchers, developed showed that experiencing more than five symptoms in the first week of illness was a significant predictor of long-COVID.

“This model could be used to identify individuals for clinical trials to reduce long-term symptoms and target education and rehabilitation services,” write Steves and colleagues.

A pre-print version of the paper is available on the server medRxiv*, while the article undergoes peer review.

Symptoms by duration. For each symptom (ordered from top to bottom by increasing frequency of occurrence) the median duration of report is presented by the total (hollowed) bar height, with associated interquartile range represented by the black line, for the short, LC28 and LC56 durations. The filled bars represent the number of times a report has been given. This highlights the differences in the symptoms in terms of their intermittence throughout the course of the disease. (Abbreviations DE – delirium, AP – Abdominal Pain, HV – Hoarse Voice, DI – Diarrhoea, CP – Chest Pain, SM – skipped meals, UMP – Unusual Muscle pains, FV – Fever, ST – Sore Throat, PC – Persistent Cough, LOS – Loss of smell, SOB – Shortness of breath, HA – Headache, FA – Fatigue)

Reports of long COVID are increasing

An increasing number of long COVID-19 cases are being reported. Yet, little is known about the prevalence or risk factors for this protracted disease or whether it is possible to predict its development based on early symptoms.

Furthermore, “few studies capture symptoms prospectively in the general population to ascertain with accuracy the duration of illness and the prevalence of long-lasting symptoms,” say Steves and team. “At the population level, it is critical to quantify the burden of long COVID to better assess its impact on the healthcare system and appropriately distribute resources.”

What did the researchers do?

The team analyzed data available for a subset of 4,182 incident cases of COVID-19 who reported their symptoms prospectively using the COVID Symptom Study app.

More specifically, the subset was made up of individuals who had tested PCR-swab-positive for COVID-19 and reported “feeling physically normal” before the start of illness (up to 14 days

How Long Does It Take to Become a Fashion Designer?

The question many aspiring young artists with a flair for fashion often ask is, “How long does it take to become a fashion designer?” The answer differs according to the individual, but there are some standards that can be set so that anyone who wishes to enter the industry and become successful in it can have some idea of what to do and how long to wait before he or she can launch a clothing line and start getting public attention.

Starting as Early as Possible

Students in high school should already have some idea of what they want to do in life, so if an interest in fashion is already apparent as early as fourteen years old, students can already start taking classes to get a jump start on training. There are art and design classes, home economics, sewing and tailoring, pattern-making and other fashion-related classes that high schools offer. If not, community colleges and other institutions are always open for students who are interested in taking classes like these.

After high school, how long does it take to become a fashion designer in the professional sense? Tertiary education is the next step in order for anyone to truly earn a niche in fashion. Four year bachelor courses in fashion design are offered in major colleges and universities, so are two year associate degrees. More prestige means a bachelor’s degree, but those who wish to finish their education in a shorter time may still enroll in associate courses. These courses give students the necessary background and knowledge and hone their skills in order for them to progress.

Getting into the Industry

After graduation, the logical step to answer the question how long does it take to become a fashion designer is to enter the industry. This can be done either through an internship or by getting employed as an assistant or any entry-level job, preferably with a big company or well-known fashion name. This way, a student can maximize the experience and learn a lot that can later be applied. Depending on how long the contract is, or how well a person does, this can take anywhere from two years to until the aspiring designer reaches middle age. New fashion designers can even opt to enter amateur contests in order to show the world what they can do.

For those who are just beginning, starting as soon as high school may knock a few years off the training process, so that it is possible to have gained the necessary education and experience in the early to mid-twenties. For those who found their passion later in life, it can take as little as five years if the person is really determined and has the proper drive to succeed, and as much as ten years if the individual stays longer with a fashion company or label. In the end, the only person who can tell how long does it take to become a fashion designer is himself or herself, as success …

Shaggy Layered Medium Length Hairstyles Are Long on Style

Shaggy Layers as the seasons come and go, many hairstyles rise and fall in popularity. However, one of the most enduring and versatile hairstyles of this season is the shaggy layered medium length hairstyle. No doubt you've seen it and admired it on the streets. This hairstyle would also be referred to as the modern shag. It capitalizes on the hair's natural ability to have volume and zest with very little effort. If you have medium length hair and you are looking for a hairstyle that will allow you to look as vibrant as you feel, the shaggy layers style could be look for you.

With medium length shaggy layers you have many options for styles. Your hair will still be long enough to put back into a ponytail or create a sexy up-do, but you will also have the most adorable layers to be creative with when your hair is down. The two general ways that women with shaggy layers will wear their hair is messy and curly or straight. When you have layers, either of these styles are easy to accomplish and maintain with a little styling product and time in the morning.

If you have layers and want to wear it messy and curly, simply towel dry your hair after showering and brush through with a large tooth comb. Then, add some volumizing product and scrunch throughout. Decide where you want your part to be and arrange your hair around it. In the back, add some volumizing spray to enhance the volume. After that, with a diffuser dry your hair while scrunching with your hands. This will give you waves throughout your hair. When your hair is almost dry, spray with a maximum hold light hairspray underneath the top layer. Then, finish drying with the diffuser. To combat frizz, use your straightener as a curler to smooth out the edges on the sides and back.

If you prefer a straight layered medium length look, start with towel dried hair. Add a frizz control serum and brush through. Then, with your blow-dryer, completely dry your hair while creating and shaping the part. After hair is completely dry, start straightening in chunks. Start with the back and work your way up to the front of your hair, making sure all strands have been straightened. After straightening each strand, spray with medium hold hairspray to combat frizz. Finish with a light spray all over your head. Use a mirror to make sure you've straightened the back, too.

The possibilities are unlimited with a medium length hairstyle!
