Addison Rae on American Eagle Jeans, Social Media & Her Style Icons

After TikTok sensation Addison Rae became the new social media It Girl a few months back, it didn’t take long for American Eagle to claim her as both brand superfan and spokesperson. Rae was regularly spotted in AE’s widely-beloved jeans and basics, and with the brand expanding to offer more sizes and styles than ever before, it made sense for this rising star and denim powerhouse to pair up.

Of course, Rae’s style has changed quite a bit since her first post on TikTok, where she’s now amazed 65.5 million followers and another 29.9 million on Instagram. For the most part, she sticks with simple cropped tanks, leggings, bike shorts and hoodies—but make no mistake, our girl knows how to amp it up when necessary. She served Old Hollywood glamor meets New Hollywood flair at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, and as of late she’s been spotted serving tons of street style looks alongside her BFF of the moment, Kourtney Kardashian.

If you think Rae plans on slowing down, think again. Unlike most of the things we became obsessed with during quarantine and then (quickly) forgot about, Rae is ensuring she’s here to stay. She’s planning ahead, launching her very own makeup brand, working with brands like AE and of course, making content on social media. No matter how much she’s got on her plate, the social media star always has time to film a TikTok or two.

Below, we picked Addison Rae’s brain and got the low-down on all things TikTok, her personal style, her can’t-live-without wardrobe essentials and even her style icons—who, by the way, you’d probably never expect. Read on and get the scoop straight from Rae herself.

How has your life changed since you amassed such a large following on TikTok? What has been the biggest obstacle? The most exciting part?

“I’ve been presented with so many amazing opportunities over the last year. I sometimes still can’t believe that this is my life! Living my life in the public eye comes with its challenges, but I’m learning every day how to navigate it all.”

How has being in the public eye influenced and/or changed your personal style?

“I don’t think it’s really changed my personal style. I think being in the public eye has meant I’m sent a lot of great things that go in my closet, so maybe I have more clothes today than I did before. But I don’t think it’s changed my style in any way—I’m still very much influenced by who influenced me before I was on TikTok.”

Who would you cite as your top style icons?

Atalanta Media Flips Distribution Script With Women’s Soccer Approach

Women’s soccer company Atalanta Media launched this fall with the announcement of a partnership that brought the top English women’s league (the FA Women’s Super League) to NBC Sports and to an American audience for the first time ever. The deal Atalanta facilitated brought the U.K. stints of U.S. women’s national team stars like Alex Morgan, Tobin Health and Christen Press into the living rooms of their domestic fans, but it didn’t come at a great cost to NBC. In fact, it didn’t cost the broadcast giant anything at all.

The rights were purchased by Atalanta, and may be a harbinger for how smaller leagues bring content to market. Founded by former professional player and sports marketing vet Esmeralda Negron and former Sky media rights executive Hannah Brown, the startup venture invests in women’s football rights globally in hopes of helping usher in a new era of international visibility for women’s soccer.

“I couldn’t wrap my head around not being able to find some of the best women’s pro matches [on TV]. You had 60,000 fans at the Wanda [Atlético Madrid’s stadium in Spain] against Barcelona or at [the UEFA Women’s] Champions League matches and I could not access it whatsoever. That was a really big problem,” Negron said in a phone interview. “So we set out to solve it and build a business on the back of it, pushing women’s football around the world, giving it the visibility it needed to grow and people more access to the sport.”

But bringing that vision to life required upending the distribution status quo.

Traditionally, leagues approach broadcast partners with stats about their success and existing audience to entice media’s decision-makers to buy into their broadcast worthiness. That makes it harder for smaller or newer leagues without those assets to land on big-time TV or bring in the massive rights fees seen in leagues like the NBA or NFL.

Atalanta instead acquires a league’s rights (largely U.S. distribution rights and those in other untapped international markets for now) and offers fully produced matches to broadcast partners, like NBCSN, for free. By getting the sport on television, even without an immediate financial payout, the goal is to generate an audience that could reap long-term returns. It’s an upfront gamble on the biggest chicken or the egg scenario in sports.

Exposure for a league is critical to developing an audience, but an audience is what warrants exposure from the broadcast perspective. Atalanta is trying to streamline the two schools of thought in a way that satisfies both participants—the leagues, looking for capital and cash, and potential broadcast partners, often wary of taking the risk on untested rights. Atalanta also built a community platform, Ata Football, to interest what Negron sees as a “very underserved market,” of young female fans around the world in the matches she’s working to get on television.

“Leagues want investments and money; premium broadcasters are hard to get that from when there’s no proof of audience yet. Women’s

From ELLE

On Saturday, the fifth Women’s March took place in D.C. and in hundreds of cities across the U.S.

“We’re holding socially distant actions across the country to send an unmistakable message about the fierce opposition to Trump and his agenda, including his attempt to fill Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat,” the Women’s March website read ahead of the October 17 march.

The day also seemed to be a chance for marchers to pay tribute to the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died on September 19. Marchers went past the Supreme Court building, some wearing face masks featuring RBG-inspired lace collars. One large sign displayed over the D.C. March read, “March to honor her seat.”

Many protesters shared their feelings about the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett and what it could mean for Roe v. Wade. Following the Senate hearings for Barrett’s confirmation, many reproductive rights activists have expressed concern over Barrett’s response when questioned about Roe.

“She will undermine our access to reproductive health care, to abortion from voting rights to climate change,” Goss Groves, of the National Women’s Law Center, told crowds in D.C. “She refused to even answer basic questions.”

Although Barrett’s nomination might highlight the fight for Roe in this country, protecting reproductive freedoms has been the underlying message at the Women’s Marches since the first organized even in 2017.

“Our rights are not up for debate, the Center for Reproductive Rights, a sponsor of the march, wrote in a press release then. “We will refuse to go backwards on access to reproductive health care for all women. The Women’s March happening in D.C. and across the U.S. marks the beginning of an unprecedented wave of action and civic participation that will not relent until our rights re respected.”

Here are some of the best social images from yesterday’s national marches.

How Social Media Is Affecting Current Fashions and Trends

In the past, the fashion world has seemed like a place out of reach to the general public. A mysterious place; which only the rich and famous could be part of. These days, however, thanks to the revolution of social media, this world has opened up, and everyone can join in and share experiences. Social media has had a huge impact on fashions and trends.

One of the leading examples of social media which has affected fashion is blogging. The demand for blogging has increased immensely over the past few years, and more people are becoming involved in this way of connecting with each other. Fashion bloggers report on the latest fashions and trends via relevant websites, before they reach magazines, and interestingly, we now see bloggers sitting in the front row of catwalk shows. A place which was previously reserved for only celebrities and designers. The reason there is such a huge interest in this form of social media, is not only because we can usually relate to the writer, but also because they have the ability to report on the latest trends instantly after the shows have taken place. This diminishes the need to wait weeks or months on magazines being published, or websites updated. It also gives us a platform to interact and communicate with each other.

Popular websites such as Facebook, twitter and YouTube have also had a tremendous influence on ladies fashion and current trends. Top designers such as Burberry and Louis Vuitton have used these types of social media to stream live catwalk shows as they happen, which enables viewers to tell each other about the latest fashion before it reaches the shops. It is also a way to communicate directly with designers, which increases their awareness of what looks are popular and what fashion enthusiasts are interested in. It enables people to feel connected and express their opinions. It also allows people to have a direct influence on fashion trends, and know their views are valued. Designers are also developing ways for viewers to make instant clothing purchases, during these live performances.

Fashion dedicated sites such as Polyvore and Chitopia have in-built forums, where visitors can interact with each other, and share style tips and advice. There is also the option to upload photos, and show off your personal style. These types of fashions sites have a significant affect on current trends, as people love to talk to each other, and what better way to showcase your own unique style, and allow others to become inspired and even replicate ideas.

The increase in social media not only affects styles and trends, but it also allows designers to reach a higher amount of people, in a shorter time frame. It can greatly increase traffic to specific websites, and as a result, make a huge impact on online sales. The need and desire for social media is only set to continue and make way for an even more interesting and inspirational way to interact and …
