"For Greater Success Women Need To Be Better Negotiators" – Negotiation Tip of the Week

People that negotiate better than others tend to have greater success in life. That's true to a point. Because, if a man and a woman have equal skills as a negotiator, in general, women tend to get the shorter outcome. For that reason, women need to be even better negotiators .

… I asked what challenges she has when negotiating. She said, "none – I never have anything to negotiate." After I probed by saying, never? She, replied, "I took my brother once to help me negotiate the purchase of my car. I figured the dealer would take advantage of a woman alone. But my brother wasn't any good. He just said yes to everything the dealer said He did not know anything about negotiations. I might as well be alone. "

Negotiation Awareness:

Most people don't realize when they're negotiating. Negotiation occurs when you're attempting to achieve an outcome. Anytime you're trying to get someone to embrace your beliefs – you're negotiating. Some consider that influencing. But in reality, it's a negotiation.

As you're most likely aware, my motto is, "You're always negotiating." That means, even when you're engaged in the influence process, you've most likely had prior interactions that shape how you address someone. Those previous interactions were negotiations. You exchanged in the give-and-take process that's influencing how you currently interact with someone of likemindedness or appearance.

That's important for women to remember when they're negotiating. If they possess a shackled mindset, they'll be less efficient when negotiating. Instead, women must look at the situation and think, I'm free to be who I am. My past is not my present. And I will not allow old thoughts that hindered my progress from slowing me down. I will become stronger and move more boldly towards my future. Then, learn more about how to become a better negotiator.

Know Your Assets:

There were several factors about negotiations that the lady I was speaking with didn't recognize.

  • She didn't recognize that she's continuously negotiating. That means being aware of where one action will lead and how it will impact the next step. Planning your steps will give you insights into what you'll need as you engage them.
  • Since she thought she never negotiated, there were no contingency plans for situations she might encounter. Always plan how you'll act and react before entering into situations. Women should consider how their gender might cause others to treat them. The more import the outcome, the more one should plan.
  • Her brother was an asset. His presence gave her unforeseen leverage. But since she didn't know how to use it, she forewent that advantage. Sometimes, having the right person with you in a negotiation adds value to your effort. As a woman, consider how you might employ seen and unseen leverage in your negotiations.
  • When negotiating in what might be an awkward situation, consider allies to enlist to strengthen your position. Look for those that have skills that will offset those of the other negotiator.

Is Shopping Once a Week the Best Way to Save Money on Groceries?

Many of the articles I have seen lately mention shopping weekly as one of the best ways to keep your budget low. Today let's explore this strategy:

There are some advantages to grocery shopping weekly. When you shop weekly you have a routine of what day you shop and you can make the best use of any weekly sales that are offered at your store. Also many items like milk and fresh vegetables need to be used within about a week.

Many families get paid weekly this can make a weekly trip to the store the best option. Over the last 14 years that I have been married we have had many different pay configurations, including weekly, bi monthly, and monthly. We have also had seasons where we shopped once a month, once every two weeks, once a week, and multiple times weekly.

Every frugal family seems to have their favorite time frame to shop in. Some of my couponing friends go to a store four or more times a week. They say this is the way to get the best deal. My mother shopped once a month and said it was the best way to save money on groceries. There are just as many people out there saving money on groceries as there are "best" ways to save money on groceries.

Once a month works very well especially when you get paid once a month or if you divide your budget up so that this week's check covers these things and that week's check covers those things. The upside to shopping once a month is that less trips to the grocery store mean less impulse spending. The downside is that you can't take advantage of the weekly sales as easily and that each trip is very large and time consuming. Usually those that shop once a month will stop in for at least one quick trip during the month to grab some more milk and other perishable items.

Twice a month: This was how I first learned to shop when I was a newly wed. We got paid every other week and we would pay the bills and make a grocery trip for the payday. Advantages of shopping twice a month / every other week are that you can take advantage of twice the number of sales as with shopping monthly (though not as many as with going weekly) and the shopping trips are smaller than monthly shopping without being as often as going to the store weekly.

Weekly is actually my least favorite. While it is nice to take advantage of all the weekly sales, I don't like giving up one evening a week to plan a menu and go shopping. Some frugal shoppers love the routine of knowing that every Thursday is grocery day. If that is you, weekly shopping may be perfect for you.

Multi-time-per-week happens at my house during seasons when I am very tired or life is a little crazy. With the grocery store …

Fashion Week – Business Women's Guide to Fashion

Fashion conscious professional women share a common bond that literally transends age, race, religion and careers. Professional women can use their image to promote confidence, professionalism, strength, authority, power and prestige in the business and academic worlds. Being properly dressed at meetings, work, networking events and other business related activities is very essential to growth, development and respect. It is very important that women pay attention to the clothes and accessories they buy and how they wear their clothes in the business arena. There truly is a thin line between what is acceptable and what is un-acceptable.

Listed below are helpful tips on how professional women can build their wardrobe and wear the proper clothes to project a confident, consistent and chic image!

Foot Works

Women should pay close attention to the type of shoes they wear when conducting business in a professional or formal atmospheres. Shoes should always be well made and fit the feet properly. Too tight shoes can be uncomfortable and easily noticed by others. Women wearing too big shoes, can project a sloppy image that does not represent confidence or the proper style. A woman's shoes should also be properly polished and not have scuff marks or tears in the leather. We recommend that women polish their shoes at least twice a week and alternate shoes so that they do not wear out quickly. Another good way to preserve shoes is to keep them in a shoe box and use shoe trees to keep and maintain their shape.

Top Management

Women should also have nice, well made tops and blouses for wearing under suit jackets or with a business casual ensemble. Tops should be professional looking and fit properly. Tops that are too big look sloppy and do not flatter the silhouette. Tops that are too tight or clingly are inappropriate for business. The best way to mainain tops is to hang them on hangers or fold them. You can even place dryer sheet in between the tops to prevent static cling, resist wrinkles and keep a fresh smell. Tops which are made of delicate materials such as silk should be dry cleaned or hand washed.

Wearing the Pants

Women should also pay attention to the their body type and how they select their pants or trousers. Women who are petite should select straight cut pants that will flatter their figure and give them an appearance of being tall. The straight cut will keep their shape and will not overwhelm their figure like other styles. Women who are tall should select pants that are extra long and loose, boot-cut or wide leg styles. These styles balance the figure and give the tall woman a nice shape. Capri pants may not be the most flattering style for a tall woman. Curvy women should select pants that are tailored to their figure and are not baggy or too tight.
